ACE: The Entire Search Algorithm in One Word
Search Engine algorithms are easy as “ACE”
Okay, so if you’ve read the “What is a search engine anyway?” lesson, you now understand that search engines like Google and Bing are made up of three core parts: the Crawler, the Index, and the Search Engine.
The last part, the actual “Search Engine,” is where the real magic happens. This is where the search engine algorithm exists that sorts through all of the pages found on the internet and ranks them according to how well they will answer people’s questions.
The most important thing to understand in order to perform well in search engines is how this algorithm ranks websites.
The best analogy to understand this process is to think of a large checklist.
Imagine Google has a giant checklist of all the different factors that it looks at. If your website is doing well in a specific factor, it gives you a check mark.
After evaluating the entire checklist for your website specifically, and that of your competitors, Google adds up the check marks and whoever has scored the best in the most categories will be ranked best:
So, in order to really dig deep and truly be successful in SEO, you must focus on improving all of the factors that can get you positive checkmarks in the eyes of search engines.
This can be quite a task, considering there are hundreds and hundreds of factors that search engines look at in their algorithms to make ranking decisions.
